EL SALVADOR - Friends Surf Trip

When: End of January

The surf season here is March to October and coincides with the rainy season, when swells coming from the south can reach up to three meters high. Still, in February, we had most of the time between 1.2 meters and to 2.2 metres high.

Travel purpose: Improving turns. Getting the video to validate my Surf Instructor Diploma

Weather: Perfect. Sunny all the time. Super hot. Tee shirts during the day. Light jumpers at night.

Location:

El Zonte is a tiny quiet village. You don't come here to find lively and festive nightlife.

The nearest spot where you have some lively bars and restaurant is El Tunco, 10 minutes drive away.

Where to sleep: Puro Surf

A boutique hotel with 13 rooms and a dorm. They do surf lessons, surf academy, rentals, yoga and surf packages and food. Amazing.

About surfing there:

El Zonte

This spot is very consistence with great waves, is divided by a rivermouth, making it the most popular break the right hand pointbreak, but you also find left section during the high tide. Some rocks.
This spot is defenlty recomended for intermediat to advance surfers in the swell season.

If the currents are strong, locals will drive to surf other spots like Sunzal pointbreak or Punta Roca, or la Paz. Or Kilometro 61.

El Tunco: A bit smaller than in El Zonte. Very nice spot. You can surf with turtles around!

La Paz: Nice environment, even smaller than in Sunzal.

Kilometro 59 and 61:

K59 is a great beach area  and offers powerful right waves with great tubes and fast sections. This point was unknown for many years.

There is also K61, right point break which is only 500m away from K59 and offers great waves with long rides and barrels. The coastal scenery seen from the water at K59 and K61 is breathtaking.

K59 area is surrounded by beautiful mountains and forest.

Local surfers are very nice, they never bother you in the water!!

Where to eat in El Zonte:

Covana Seaside Kitchen: Restaurant in Puro Surf, good international food

Nan Tal: Near Puro Surf, in front of the beach, nice view, nice food

Essencia Nativa: Good place too

Olas Permanentes: Incredible view
